Good morning
As we all try and continue to get through this COVID pandemic during these couple months. I must say it’s different and more difficult with the resources my two daughters Public charter school Provides. Google classroom, dojo, zoom, online websites for educational. I’m a single mother of two girls. 1st born is 9 years old and she’s previousLy under took Heart surgery in SanFRANCISCO UCSF. IN June 2017
Since she was 7months old she has been hospitalized at Kapiolani hospital over 150 times for her heart rate beating exceeding 250 and above. Since her successful heart surgery back in June 2017 she has been without medication and rapid episodes.
She has been attended Kuhio elementary Her 2nd grade school year 2016-2017 the school and staff found that she needed a 504 plan.
Since that experience with Kuhio Elementary was very supportive in her medical, physical and emotional well being. Which I moved and transferred my two children into Voyager public charter school.
I thought this school would be a great new way of helping my daughters grow. In academics, hands on learning, art and ETC. IT has been a great school for secured Entry and elementary through middle school.
It has been two school years since my girls have been attending.
One is 4th grade and second is 1st grade. I love there previous teachers and how much effort they put into there students.
I must say everyone in the office is very difficult. Lack of support,
Specially with my daughters 504 plan they don’t have a health room or health resources, counseling when needed. This really bothers me as a mother. Which I have spoke to admin, principle, and VP
HEALTH AND SAFETY IS SO VERY IMPORTANT. Before anything having a place for my child to rest if feeling anxious or anything that applies to her followed up 504 plan. Moving forward it’s a family oriented school but I pay more for field trips, the lack of funds they say they don’t have.
School breakfast and lunch is prepared by another company which is something I never ate at a DOE SCHOOL. couple months ago the principle Anderson reported my children’s tardy and absents To CWS due to proven medical documents. For my daughters on going recovery for mental health ETC. AS I’m having to WORK with Pact voluntary services to insure my children is safe and healthy. Which is my first priority. I have to follow up and report my status of being a awesome single mother to people for the past 7 months. That’s not apart of my daughters 504 plan. Which both girls are above average in academics, socially and physically.
The problem that is occurring during this time specially is lack of funds for students to access school online, resources for learning at home.
Specially I have read In this email that public charter schools are Or should be sending packets home. Worksheets and ETC WHICH I have heard from other schools and parents there children are working on worksheets/packets/ physical writing and learning worksheets.
But everything is on google classroom. Which I work with children with disabilities as a paraprofessional with a contracted company through department of education. So I’m lacking in finances also due to this
But as I only can try do with what we have. And with a 1st grader on the computer for home school is very difficult specially at there age and attention. It only can last a little while.
It would be so helpful for worksheets/materials/ ink/ and maybe some of the school supplies I paid for through a company that works with voyager. Which school year supply I paid directly to voyager 120.00 for 1st grade daughter for them to contract with the suppliers and 4th grade I paid 130.00 for school supplies that went directly to school.
I disagree with that but I had to pay for it for my daughters to have the same things I could bought on my own at fisher Hawai’i for a much cheaper price. Where is there supplies. Shouldn’t the office give it back to us during this time. But I know they have everyone share supplies and the teachers keep it within the school. That’s my concerns during this time. When we can’t just go out and buy extra supplies or materials for our children to stay on track with there school academics.
More because my daughter has to be at home and when we have to get food and etc she is one of those higher risk to immune system due to previous health conditions. Thank you for your time and I’m grateful for everything you amazing people that believes in higher education and helping our children’s grow in there most important years of life. Mahalo
