PARENTS FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS NATIONAL SITE
PPS-HI is a member of the National organization of Parents for Public Schools, which helps schools and parents build powerful alliances that improve results for schools and students. Their goal is to strengthen public schools by engaging, educating, and mobilizing parents.
HE`E (HUI FOR EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION)
PPS-HI is an active member of HE`E (Hui for Excellence in Education), a statewide coalition of community and parent stakeholders committed to improving education. As a member, our board reviews and votes on HE`E proposals and responses and benefits from briefings from HE`E staff and members.
The official website for the Hawaii State Department of Education provides a vast amount of information aimed for parents, students, teachers, and the general public. This Content Management Site offers everything about the Department’s Strategic Plan and Goals towards student learning, staff success, and successful systems of support. Parents will find resources, tools, and much more including an in depth look at standards and assessments.
HAWAI’I KEIKI: HEALTHY AND READY TO LEARN PROGRAM:
HIDOE students and families will have access to a new health hotline and telehealth services provided by the Hawai‘i Keiki: Healthy and Ready to Learn Program to deliver equitable access to health resources and care for HIDOE students using mobile devices and interactive technology. The health hotline can be reached at (844) 436-3888 (toll free) Monday through Friday, excluding holidays & breaks.
MEDICATION SAFETY TIPS: A GUIDE TO PROTECTING CHILDREN
Each year, more and more children receive emergency medical attention due to overdoing or inadvertent medicine ingestion. This guide also goes into detail on a variety of issues on this topic and provides guidance on safe keeping and handling.
AFTER SCHOOL ALL-STARS – FREE PROGRAMS FOR ENGAGEMENT AFTER SCHOOL
The after-school hours provide a uniquely creative and entrepreneurial time in the field of public education. By teaming up with principal and faculty at each site, we’re able to identify each student’s specific needs and tailor programming to supplement the existing efforts at school. FREE MATH TUTORING THROUGH THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII MANOA
OLA hires UH Mānoa students to provide math tutoring to Hawaii students. Hawaii elementary, secondary, and community college students meet with University of Hawaii at Manoa undergraduates majoring in math and science to obtain free, one on one math tutoring within an online environment.

ERB’S PALSY SUPPORT RESOURCE
The Birth Injury Center is dedicated to supporting children and families who have been affected by disabilities caused by birth. Erb’s palsy leaves a child with nerve damage, tearing, and even paralysis in severe instances. In most cases, these can be cured with proper treatment and care. This organization strives to provide answers and guidance to ensure that families receive the assistance they need to help improve their overall quality of life.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention provides a “Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS) to monitor state by state profiles in alchohol, drugs, asthma, obesity and other risk factors.
PARENTS AGAINST VAPING
PAVe is a national organization to help stop youth smoking and vaping.
Eating disorders are most commonly seen in adolescents and young adults. 3.5% of girls and 2% of boys will be diagnosed with a binge eating disorder at some point in their life. There are several reasons for this, but 40-60% of elementary school girls are concerned about their weight or being considered “fat.” To help younger people and their caregivers, the experts at WithinHealth published a guide on Eating Disorders and Children.
