Parents for Public Schools of Hawai’i 

The mission of Parents for Public Schools of Hawai’i (PPS Hawai‘i) is to support and improve public education in Hawai‘i through increased family engagement. We seek to contract a coordinator for our middle and intermediate school transition events.

Duties: In the coming year, work with board members, volunteers, and middle school staff to plan, implement, and evaluate 5 to 6 Middle and Intermediate School Nights, including 3 on the neighbor islands and one online event that families from any island can access.

This has been a successful program for PPS Hawaii, begun well before the pandemic. Existing resources can be customized for future events.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently to coordinate a series of events with established and new stakeholders including schools and families.
  • Demonstrated connection to public education.
  • Computer/technology proficient including Office, web-based applications and have access to Internet.Ability to travel to different schools on Oahu and neighbor islands.

Desirable qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Demonstrated ability to work with culturally diverse individuals and families, problem-solve, and work independently.
  • Experience working with schools in Hawai‘i.
  • Experience with event planning and coordination.
  • Social media fluency including creating Facebook events, and taking photographs for posting.

Compensation: This position is an independent contractor and compensation is based on events planned and completed. The contractor will receive $200-300 per event, depending on the type and location of the event (virtual, O‘ahu, Neighbor Island). Neighbor island travel is reimbursable including transportation, lodging and per diem. The term of the contract is through July 1, 2024, with opportunity for extension upon satisfactory performance and availability of funds.
